What I Would Do Different on Safari -

I had an absolutely incredible time on safari in Tanzania, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t a few things I would do differently!

More Time in Ngorongoro Crater

My itinerary only had one day in Ngorongoro Crater and when I was planning my safari trip, I didn’t quite grasp how different the Serengeti and Ngorongoro are, so I didn’t think it was a big deal. However, my day in the crater ended up not having the best weather. My guide said the crater was the best chance of seeing a rhino, but the weather was not on our side. Add to that the fact that the landscape of the crater was also vastly different than that of the Serengeti and I wish I’d had at least one more day in Ngorongoro Crater. Plus I wouldn’t have minded spending another night at Rhino Lodge!

More Time in Stone Town, Zanzibar

I flew from Arusha to Zanzibar and landed fairly late in the evening. What I didn’t anticipate was that going from the peace and extreme quiet of nature of safari to the bustling city of Stone Town would be such a culture shock. So I called it an early night and caught up on some much-needed sleep. I was only in Stone Town until around lunchtime the next day before I headed to Nungwi and I feel like I missed out on so much that Stone Town has to offer! I did a wonderful private Stone Town tour that morning (my guide was incredible) but I would have loved another day to wander and get lost in the winding alleys of this unique city center.

More Time in Nungwi, Zanzibar

In keeping with the theme of “I wish I had more time”, I wish I’d spent more time in Nungwi! The beach was gorgeous, the Nungwi Dreams was wonderful, and it was just the thing I needed to relax after long days on safari, however, it rained one of my two days there, which was a bummer!

By now I’m sure you’ve seen the pattern that my biggest, actually only regret, regret about my safari trip is that I didn’t have more time! I know that this is a once-in-a-lifetime trip and it can be incredibly expensive, but I strongly recommend taking as much time as you can to soak up every second of it!
