Thanks to the rise of Asian markets and the convenience of online shopping, it’s easier than ever to discover these delicious treats. Whether you’re a fan of crunchy chips or chewy candies, the world of Asian snacks is vast and waiting to be explored. So, next time you’re in the mood for a snack, why not venture into the aisles of your local Asian market or browse online to find something new and exciting?

Italian Red Meat Flavor

These chips are an intense orange color, which had me intrigued. The flavor? Surprisingly mild. There’s a hint of tomato and a subtle beefy taste, but nothing too bold. I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy these again, but they’re decent. Rating: 3.5/5

Cucumber Flavor

The moment I opened the bag, I was hit with a spa water aroma—which is not what I look for in a potato chip. The taste? Imagine dipping a chip into an overly infused cucumber water. It’s just not a combo that works. Rating: 2/5

Spicy Crayfish Flavor

I had high hopes for these, and they delivered! They have that classic shrimp boil seasoning with just a bit of spice—not overwhelming, but flavorful. I’d buy these again in a heartbeat. Rating: 4/5

Zunyi Rice Noodle Flavor

I wasn’t sure what to expect here, but WOW! There’s a deep umami richness, a hint of lime or cilantro, and a complexity that makes these stand out. Surprisingly delicious. Rating: 4.75/5

Fried Crab Flavor

These start off strong with a briny, ocean-like taste, but then the fried flavor takes over in a way that dulls the overall experience. I preferred the crayfish chips over these. Rating: 3.5/5

Grilled Squid Flavor

These ridged chips have a pleasant smoky taste and a hint of grilled seafood. It’s a step up from the fried crab but not as addictive as the crayfish. Rating: 3/5

Mexican Chicken Tomato Flavor

This one surprised me with its stewed tomato taste, but I didn’t really get much “chicken” from it. It leans more towards ketchup than chicken. Rating: 3.75/5

Pepper Chicken Flavor

Now, this actually smells like chicken! The taste is like a crunchy chicken bouillon cube with a little peppery kick. It’s good and earns bonus points for actually tasting like chicken! Rating: 3.85/5

Spanish Ham Flavor

These chips come in a fancy little tray for easy snacking access (snaccess?) The flavor is smoky and cured, resembling ham, but they could use more salt. Rating: 3.6/5

Saucy Pancake Flavor

Apparently, this is inspired by a Chinese pancake sauce, but to me, it tasted like cardboard with a hint of syrup. Would not recommend. Rating: 2/5

Avocado & Sweet Mustard Flavor

The chips are a bright avocado green, and the mustard is mild but noticeable. Surprisingly balanced and enjoyable. Rating: 3.8/5

Scallion Pancake Flavor

Strong scallion taste but lacks the brightness I was hoping for. Also, the green-tinted globs on the chips (presumably scallion) are a little off-putting. Rating: 3.7/5

Umeboshi Vegetable Pancake Flavor

Umeboshi is a Japanese pickled plum, and while this chip does capture the plum flavor, it’s not overwhelmingly sour. Unique but not my favorite. Rating: 3/5

Lemon Flavor

A bright, citrusy chip that acts as a nice palate cleanser. Refreshing and unexpected. Rating: 3.9/5

Kyushu Seaweed Flavor

If you like nori, you’ll enjoy these. They taste just like the seaweed wrap on sushi, just a bit lighter on the saltiness. Rating: 4/5

Garden Tomato Flavor

These oddly square-shaped chips have a stronger tomato punch than the Mexican Chicken Tomato variety. The texture is unique, more like a compressed Pringles-style chip, and enjoyable. Rating: 4/5

Roasted Cumin Lamb Skewer Flavor

One of my absolute favorites! Smoky, rich, and deeply flavorful with a perfect balance of cumin and meatiness. Rating: 4.8/5

Texas Grilled BBQ Flavor

A more subtle version of an American BBQ chip—pleasant but nothing special. Rating: 3.5/5

Zibo BBQ Flavor

I expected more, given how great some of the other grilled/meat flavors were, but this one falls short. Rating: 3/5

Roasted Garlic Oyster Flavor

Heavy on the garlic, light on the oyster. While I love garlic, this flavor gets overwhelming quickly. Rating: 2.9/5

Grilled Chicken Wing Flavor

Tastes like a chicken bouillon cube but with a less salty flavor. It keeps with the disappointing theme of the chicken flavors. Rating: 3/5

Where to Find Unique Asian-Flavored Potato Chips

If you’re on the hunt for unique and delicious Asian-flavored potato chips, you’re in luck. Asian markets are a treasure trove of these snacks, offering a wide range of flavors and brands. Online retailers like Amazon and Bokksu Market also stock an impressive variety, making it easy to explore new tastes from the comfort of your home. Don’t overlook specialty food stores or gourmet markets, which often carry artisanal and small-batch snacks. For an authentic experience, visit a Japanese or Korean grocery store, where you’ll find an array of flavors that you won’t find anywhere else. Happy snacking!

Final Thoughts

After tasting 20 different Lay’s chip flavors from Asia, I have to say that overall, they are much more balanced and subtle than their American counterparts. My top two favorites? Zunyi Rice Noodle and Roasted Cumin Lamb Skewer!

Happy snacking!
