Wondering if you need a Germany visa for your upcoming trip? Learn about Germany’s entry requirements, ETIAS information, and more!
Yes, Germany is a Schengen state.
If you are visiting for tourism or business and hold a valid U.S. passport, you can stay in the Schengen area (which includes Germany) without a visa for 90 days within each 180-day period. To stay longer than 90 days you must obtain a visa. However, starting in mid 2025, to travel to Europe U.S. passport holders will need to apply for a visa waiver. Once the program launches, this can be done through the EU’s European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS).
To enter Germany, US citizens must have a valid US Passport. It must be valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure date from the Schengen Area and six months is suggested. Your passport must have two blank pages. You also need a ticket showing your departure from Germany.
Germany has several international airports and which one you fly into depends on what region of Germany you’ll be visiting.
Frankfurt Airport (FRA), Munich International Airport (MUN), and Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) are all large, international airports in Germany.
United Airlines, Lufthansa, and Singapore Airlines all offer direct flights from the United States to Germany.
