If you’ve ever thought, “I wish I could just watch Netflix and magically learn Spanish,” well — good news — Lingopie is about as close to that dream as it gets. It’s a language learning platform that uses real TV shows, movies, and music to teach you a new language in a fun, natural, and binge-worthy way. I’ve been using Lingopie to help learn Italian — here’s everything you need to know.

What Exactly is Lingopie?

Think Netflix, but for language learners. Lingopie offers real content — like comedies, dramas, documentaries, and even kids’ shows — in your target language, paired with interactive tools like:

  • Dual subtitles (your language + the target language)
  • Click-to-translate vocab
  • Built-in flashcards
  • Games and quizzes to reinforce what you’ve learned

It’s available in 12 languages: Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, German, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Dutch, Turkish, and English.

You can use Lingopie on your phone, tablet, desktop, and even smart TV! It’s user-friendly and works whether you’re a total beginner or brushing up on advanced skills.

What Streaming Services Does Lingopie Work With?

Here’s the part that convinced me to try it: Lingopie actually integrates with some of the streaming services I was already watching — specifically Netflix and Disney+. Iron Man in Italian? Yes, please!

Lingopie + Netflix

With the Netflix Selects feature, you can watch curated Netflix shows and movies in your target language while using Lingopie’s tools to:

  • Get instant translations
  • Create flashcards on the spot
  • Pause and rewind with subtitles that make sense

To use it:

  1. Have a Lingopie and Netflix account.
  2. Install the Lingopie browser extension (works best on Chrome).
  3. Open Netflix on your browser, pick a show from the Netflix Selects catalog, and start watching.

Lingopie + Disney+

Yes, Disney! Same idea as above. With Disney Selects, you can stream Disney+ content — think Marvel, Pixar, or classic animated favorites — and learn languages while you watch.

To connect:

  1. Log in to both your Disney+ and Lingopie accounts.
  2. Install the browser extension.
  3. Open the Disney Selects tab, hit play, and let the learning begin.

Right now, these integrations are desktop-only (laptops and PCs), but Lingopie is working on expanding device compatibility.

Learning Italian in My 40s

How Often Should You Use It?

Like with anything, consistency matters. Here’s a quick guide:

  • Beginners: 3–5 days a week, 20–30 minutes per session
  • Intermediate: 4–6 days a week, 30–45 minutes
  • Advanced: 5–7 days a week, 45–60 minutes

Short and consistent is better than long and sporadic. Even one episode a day can make a difference! Now I’ll admit to not using it as frequently as I should, but on days I know that I should study my Italian and I’m just not feeling it, I pop on an episode on Lingopie and it feels like more fun than homework!

Does It Actually Work?

I’m going to say yes, with the caveat that it shouldn’t be the only way you’re working on learning the language. If I had just jumped into watching Gilmore Girls in Italian with no previous Italian experience, I would have been lost! Even just having done Duolingo would be helpful!

And speaking of Gilmore Girls, you know how fast they talk? Lingopie lets you slow down the dialogue so you don’t miss a beat (or one of the pop culture references Lorelai and Rory like to make!)

What Does It Cost?

Lingopie offers a 7-day free trial, so you can try it out risk-free. After that, you’ve got a few options:

  • Monthly: $12/month
  • Yearly: $65/year
  • Family Plan: $99/year for up to 4 users

Considering most language courses cost way more and aren’t nearly as fun, that’s a solid deal.

Final Thoughts: Is Lingopie Worth It?

If you love watching TV and you’ve been trying to learn a language — Lingopie is a no-brainer. It turns binge-watching into something productive. Whether you’re watching K-Dramas to pick up Korean or rewatching Frozen in French, Lingopie makes learning intuitive and fun.

So grab some popcorn, fire up that browser, and turn binge-watching into brain-building. You might just find yourself saying “just one more episode” — in a whole new language.

If you like it, put a pin on it!
