What are Overwater Bungalows?

Overwater bungalows are a type of accommodation that is perched atop calm, shallow waters. These unique structures are often found in exotic destinations like the South Pacific, Asia, and the Caribbean. Imagine waking up to the gentle sound of waves lapping beneath your feet, with water stretching out as far as the eye can see. Overwater bungalows offer a one-of-a-kind experience featuring the serenity of the sea.

These bungalows are designed to provide an exclusive and intimate escape. Some feature private infinity pools while others include glass floors, allowing you to observe the vibrant marine life right below your living space. Overwater hammocks, outdoor showers, and spacious private decks add to the luxurious feel, making these bungalows the epitome of relaxation and romance. Whether you’re celebrating a honeymoon, an anniversary, or simply seeking a tranquil retreat, overwater bungalows promise an unforgettable stay.

Are there overwater bungalows in the US?

As someone who’s worked in the travel industry for over a decade, one of the most common questions I’m asked is: are there overwater bungalows in the US? And my answer is, “kind of”. While yes, there actually are a few overwater bungalows in the US, they’re not the typical dreamy overwater bungalows that you see in photos. Those overwater bungalows are mostly in the South Pacific and a super long flight from the US. But that’s not to say that there aren’t some unique overwater bungalows in the US!

Are there overwater bungalows in Hawaii?

One of the things people find most disappointing is that there are no overwater bungalows in Hawaii. Between the jagged lava rock coastline and the rougher waters, there is no way to safely build overwater bungalows in Hawaii.

Florida’s overwater bungalows offer a luxurious experience, comparable to those at Sandals Royal Caribbean, which features private infinity pools, butler service, and a unique setting on a private island.
