After my time in Kenya at Giraffe Manor, I headed to Tanzania for the next part of my African journey: safari! Here are the safari hotels in Tanzania (plus a few in Zanzibar) where I stayed during my weeklong trip!

Olerai Lodge

Formerly a family home, Olerai Lodge opened as a hotel in 2019. Set among an acacia grove this sun-soaked hotel is surrounded by lush greenery and is an absolute delight! This unexpected gem of a property was my favorite way to start my Tanzania trip! From sundowners at the circular fire pit to the cozy cottage nestled among flowers, the property was beautiful and the service was stellar! I’m only sad that I was there for just one night and would gladly stay there again.

Africa Safari Lake Manyara

During my visit, I would say that Africa Safari Lake Manyara was undergoing some challenges. The property had flooded badly during the previous rainy season and some parts of it were still flooded. In addition, they were expanding and new accommodations were being built. The combination of the construction and water made the property a bit of a mud pit, if I’m being honest. And while my glamping tent was definitely on the luxury side, the way that it locked was not actually secure and as a solo traveler, this made me a bit uneasy and I would probably not choose to stay here again.

Acacia Central Camp

Nestled in the heart of the Serengeti, Acacia Central Camp puts the upscale in upscale glamping! The incredibly large tents have comfy beds, ample space, and even soaking tubs! Hot water for tea is brought to your room in the evening as it gets chilly at certain times of the year and the staff will walk you to and from your room after dark as a precaution against animals that might be in the area. The buffet dinner was delightful and the staff put on a wonderful performance for a guest who was celebrating a milestone birthday, making the meal a lively experience! I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again!

Bwitengi Village

  • Rates: from $187 (full board)
  • Vibes: Upscale glamping
  • WiFi: Available
  • Gym: No

Rhino Lodge

While my room at Rhino Lodge wasn’t much to look at (see below), I found the hotel to be a pleasant surprise! The staff was kind and helpful, the meals were plentiful and delicious, and the vibes were incredibly communal as guests gathered around the restaurant area to watch the sunset, share safari experiences, and enjoy the wildlife that surrounded the property. There are other much fancier (and much more expensive) hotels in Ngorongoro Crater, but Rhino Lodge is a great value for the price!

Upendo House Hotel

A chic oasis in the historic UNESCO World Heritage city of Stone Town, Upendo House Hotel is a small boutique hotel with a stunning rooftop pool and a restaurant that offers 360-degree views of the city. With only eight rooms, the staff-to-guest ratio is high, and the property is centrally located in Stone Town, not far from the night market. This is another hotel where I stayed for just one night and wish I had been there longer. I would absolutely recommend staying here if your plans bring you to Stone Town!

Stone Town, Zanzibar

Nungwi Dreams

An hour’s drive from the hustle and bustle of Stone Town, Nungwi Dreams is a chill beach escape that was the perfect way to end my safari journey! With two infinity pools, a white sand beach, and picture-perfect views of aquamarine water, I felt the weariness from all the days of bouncing around in a safari jeep and early wake-up calls leave my body and I headed home from my trip refreshed and already plotting how I could do it all over again!
